The New Town and its GardensNew tour for 2013. Discover the grandeur of Georgian Edinburgh through buildings and gardens designed to impress. Edinburgh's New Town is the largest and best preserved example of Georgian town planning in the UK. It still retains dozens of communal, private gardens, many by Act of Parliament. See beyond the railings: each tour will include a visit to one of the privately-owned New Town gardens. Depending on the day you choose, you may visit either East Queen Street Garden for its 'Grecian temple' and wonderful vintage trees, or Central Queen Street Garden to see the pond where, as a child, Robert Louis Stevenson began to imagine a treasure island. See tour diary for details of which garden we'll visit in each tour.
I can thoroughly recommend the New Town tour which took me to places I didn't know existed or which I wouldn't have been able to get into, and as always Jean really knows her stuff! Lin, Edinburgh |
